Mutated elders and gerontophagy: the illicit transfer of senior memory
I The voracious lineage of the eternal apprentice
Contemporary biopolitics stretched human life to an average of 100 years in the laboratory countries, but it did not prevent senile forgetting.
On the margins, a bio-technognostic sect proposes a brutal shortcut: eating –or rather infusing– aged neural tissue to absorb memories and skills stored across decades.
This is not folkloric cannibalism but laboratory gerontophagy: dissolving long-lived synapses into cocktails of extracellular vesicles, filtering them through carbon nanotubes and perfusing them into young brains after opening temporary breaches in the blood-brain barrier.
“Reading history will not be enough: you must digest it.”
(Everything described is speculative; it contains no reproducible protocols and no laboratory doses).
II Anatomy of the neuro-anthropophagous rite
| Stage | Biological resource | Destination in the host |
|---|---|---|
| “Grey” collection | Dentate gyrus of donors > 85 y, post mortem < 6 h | mRNA fragments of episodic memory |
| Gentle lysis | Protease enzymes + ultrasound | Frees vesicles carrying synaptic markers |
| CNT filtering (2 nm) | The nanotubes clear detritus > 500 kDa | Selects neurotrophic factor & RNA |
| Trans-BBB perfusion | 1 MHz ultrasound opens the BBB for 60 s | The vesicles enter the juvenile hippocampus |
| Induced sleep | Propofol + REM-proxy audio | Young tissue rewires synapses with a foreign charge |
(A conceptual diagram; not medical instructions.)
III Formula for “mnemonic gain”
- C_{\text{ARN}}
- concentration of fossil synaptic RNA
- \eta_{\text{sinapsis}}
- integration efficiency (≤ 0.3 in theory)
- T_{\text{inflammation}}
- post-infusion microgliosis
- \sigma_{\text{rechazo}}
- immuno-genetic variability
The net gain is positive only if the host survives the inflammatory storm and if the old synapses do not collide with freshly formed cognitive maps (psychosis).
IV Leaked chronology of outbreaks (2025-26)
| Grey zone | “Donors” | Beneficiaries | Reported sequela |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lagos | 14 destitute elders | An e-sports cartel | A player recited somebody else's life, acute paranoia |
| Mar del Plata | Unclaimed bodies | The startup “Memory-Mint” | The CEO claims to know tangos from 1932; the choreography is not quite right |
| Bratislava | A privatised hospice | Local politics | Speeches with phrases in a Hungarian dialect unknown to her |
V Mutant ethics & dilemmas
- Posthumous consent — Can an elder donate memories the way they donate organs?
- Cultural expropriation — The collective memories of poor communities trafficked to young élites.
- Identity drift — The host takes on other people's traumas → depersonalisation, dissociative fugues.
- A black market in “skills” — Five-star chefs buy grandmothers' synapses for prize-winning recipes.
VI Proposed biopolitical counterweights
| Wall | Instrument | Sacrifice |
|---|---|---|
| Memo-GPL licence | Every donated synapse goes to a public repository (anonymised RNA image) | Kills luxury exclusivity |
| Immuno-sentinel cut-off | Edited lymphocytes attack non-consented vesicles | Autoimmunity risk |
| Transfer threshold | Max. 5 % of the hippocampus may be populated with external RNA | Blockchain auth in the perfusor |
| A public rite of mourning | The beneficiary tells the donor's life before the community | Breaks the clandestine market, but exposes sensitive data |
VII Reflective ritualzero biology
-
01
Choose a cherished memory of an elder close to you.
-
02
Write it down in as much detail as you can.
-
03
Read it aloud and imagine losing your authorship over it.
-
04
Notice whether you still value the memory knowing everyone could own it.
VIII Coda
“The eternity you are after hides in other people's neurons, but every mouthful brings a yesterday that can devour you.”
Mnemonic gerontophagy dramatises post-human anxiety: jumping the evolutionary bridge by eating living history.
Stealing aged memories may promise instant genius, but it threatens a legacy more toxic than any radiation or cryptovirus: the ontological confusion of carrying memories that were not born in your flesh.
The future will decide whether we honour old age by sharing its voice… or devour it until we are sick with past.
