Exploration

A funnel. Every line that comes in has to cross one point before going on, and whoever controls that point needs to control nothing else.

Kroker and Weinstein described in 1994 a ruling class that wanted neither factories nor lands but the register the transaction passes through.

The obligatory passage point charges for letting through. An application store that keeps thirty per cent does not make the program, does not sell it and does not answer for it: it is in the middle.

What is paid for is not a service but a position, and its value depends not on what it contributes but on there being no alternative route.

The competition cases of the last decade argue over exactly that: whether the funnel is a product or a toll.
