Neoreaction: NRx as a sovereignist _bug_
I Genealogical furrow: from Moldbug to the CEO-monarchic mash-up
-
Under the pseudonym Mencius Moldbug, Curtis Yarvin launches a shark-blog: Unqualified Reservations.
The diagnosis: liberal democracy is a legacy operating system loaded with moral bloatware ; slow governments, twilit voters, journalists as priests of a decadent faith —“the Cathedral”.
The proposed patch: Neoreaction (NRx). Its blueprint: -
Patch > Revolution — you do not overthrow states: you forkthem, you make a new one with your own root .
-
Sovereign exit — charter cities, fiscally autonomous archipelagos, DAOs with drone armies.
-
Shareholding instead of suffrage — one dollar, one vote. Governance as a cap table; CEO > parliament.
Today NRx lives in crypto forums, Silicon Valley think tanks , “men of action” podcasts, Latin parachains dreaming of customs-free ports.
II Anatomy of the bug sovereignist
-
Democratic Kernel Panic
Uninformed voters + pachydermic bureaucracy = delayed decision → a market opportunity lost. -
Elitist Hard Fork
Convene “investor-citizens” to found a micro-State; whoever funds it commands, whoever does not… exit. -
Governance-as-a-Service
Private militia, digital identity, on-chain arbitration courts. Every state function packaged as an API.
In the NRx mind, the tree-States wither; the rhizome-patches replace them, each as competitive as a Minecraftserver.
III Contagion 2025: where it smells of NRx
- Próspera (the Balkans) — an industrial zone + a civic token ; residence permits through the purchase of validation nodes.
- Freeport Tehuantepec — a mining lobby proposes a charter city with zero taxation in exchange for port control and a private police force.
- Fusion Zones (UAE, Singapore) — logistics links where labour law amounts to a corporate contract.
In every example, the NRx promise glitters: speed, security of property, low friction. The cost: citizenship convertible into shares, democracy relegated to a footnote.
IV Friction with Landian accelerationism
| Vector | NRx (Yarvin) | Land-core |
|---|---|---|
| Governance | An unlimited CEO, a patchwork of jurisdictions | Governance is irrelevant: capital rules de facto |
| Objective | An exit | from the masses for the fit |
| Accelerate the meltdown, no rescue | Migration | Filter by capital or IQ |
Accept every mutation useful to capital Both share a contempt for democracy, but NRx wantselitist stability ; Land prefers anentropising tempest
. Two heresies, different tempo. V Vulnerabilities of the elitist fork
-
Paradox of legitimacy
How do you avoid an insurgency when citizenship is pay-to-play? Portfolios today, gallows tomorrow. -
Infra dependence
Charter cities still plug their water, energy and internet into “zombie” states. If the zombie coughs, the premium city sneezes. -
Inverse corporate capture
CEOs can be as inefficient and corrupt as any parliament. With no counterweights, the patch fills up with feudal malware. -
Failure of systemic empathy
Outsourcing poverty and migration can set off frontal violence —see Haiti-DR, Gaza-Israel, the wall-neighbourhoods of Brazil.
VI Manual of neoreactionary hygiene
- Audit the redistribution — even a micro-State must trace minimum social dividends or it will self-immolate.
- Horizontalise the exit — Exit not only for capital; allow a rotation of worker-citizens with real participation.
- Open-source legal firmware — scannable constitutions, amendments by pull request, transparency by design.
- Double ecological accounting — with no balance of emissions and water, the startup-State risks a climatic rug pull .
VII Coda: fork or merge
“When every state promises security and delivers lag, somebody will compile another kernel.”
NRx is a sovereignist bug: it exposes how badly the tree-democracy hung, but it installs a possible despotism-by-speed.
James looks at it as a hacker: forking is healthy, as long as the code stays auditable and the licence forbids closed abuse.
Accelerate, yes; but with back doors left open to revolt. Otherwise the patch will turn into another authoritarian virus biding its time.
