Exploration

In 2000, Bard and Söderqvist described a class that owns neither land nor factories but positions: power would consist of deciding which information circulates and which does not, and of belonging to closed networks invisible from outside.

They published it the year the first internet bubble blew up, when the reasonable conclusion was the opposite one.

They got the mechanics right and the rest wrong. No new class appeared: the old one bought the instruments. Whoever controls which information circulates today is not an upstart from the network, it is a fund with stakes in the cables, the data centres and the companies that fill them. The netocracy exists and it is made up of the same surnames as before.
