Description

The cat of 1935 was a mockery against the dominant interpretation, not a defence of it; the equation, for its part, never collapses. Printed here are the two states weighing the same.

Exploration

The equation never collapses. It evolves continuously and, if taken seriously, drags the superposition outwards: the atom, the detector, the flask, the cat, whoever opens the box.

What stops that being seen is not a limit of size but of isolation. Every collision with a molecule of air or every thermal photon carries away information from the system and undoes the interference.

The calculation gives brutal times. For an object of one micron in ambient air, the superposition lasts of the order of a thousand-millionth of a thousand-millionth of a second.

The cat is not in two states: it is in one from long before anyone opens anything.

A quantum computer devotes itself entirely to fighting that. It is cooled to millikelvin and shielded to stretch to a few microseconds what nature closes on its own.
